This book goes throught what happend on the night of April 26, 1986
Anatoly Dyatlov was deputy chief-engineer on his night shift in control of the Chernobyl reactor 4 plant. He was instucted to do a test on reactor #4 so it could pass the soviet's RBMK (reaktor bolshoy moshchnosty kanalny) reactor standards. While they were running the test the reactor exploded.
The Chernobyl plant is located in Pryp'yat', Ukraine (formally soviet ukraine)
